Sule Lamido to run for presidental election in 2019.

Presidential elections are still more than two years away, former Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State,  has already declared his interest to contest  presidency on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“If my party finds me worthy of the party’s presidential ticket to serve Nigeria, I will thank God and oblige.

“Although there are issues in the party that we are all working to resolve, we hope to have success soon and come out united.

The former governor held that the internal crisis in PDP was the reason for its defeat in 2015 general elections and that the party was working to bring back those who left the party before the last presidential elections.

“As I’m talking to you now, we are working silently to resolve our differences and bring back to our fold those that left the party for APC”, he said.

Mahrez, the record breaker become the first to be named PFA Player of the Year from Africa.

CR7 ruled out Olympic Games attetant.

Cristiano Ronaldo has ruled himself out of contention to feature for Portugal at the Olympic Games in the summer..
The draw for the tournament in Brazil, which kicks off on Aug. 4, took place on Thursday, with Portugal joining Algeria, Honduras and Argentina in Group D.
Sources close to Ronaldo have told Goal that the Real Madrid star will not be available for selection, however, with participating nations able to select three players over the age of 23 as part of their squads for the competition.
The prospect of Portugal's meeting with Argentina had sparked speculation of a clash between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at the Games but Messi has already been ruled out by coach Gerardo Martino.
Like Messi, who will play at the Copa America, Ronaldo will represent his country in one major competition this summer - the European Championship in France.
Given the 31-year-old has played 50 games for Madrid in four of his last five seasons and is likely to do so again by the end of the current campaign, adding another tournament to his schedule has been deemed unrealistic.
Last week, Barcelona communicated to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that Neymar would be available for only one tournament this summer.
That decision effectively ruled him out of the Copa America as Neymar has indicated he would prefer to play for his country on home soil at the Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The CBF, however, has insisted it will continue to appeal for the 24-year-old to be made available for both tournaments.

Alex Iwobi said Jay-Jay Okocha adviced him

Alex Iwobi has turned to his famous uncle Jay-Jay Okocha for advice since breaking into the Arsenal team.
Okocha is one of the best Nigerian players of all time, a talented playmaker who starred in the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers, and he's taken to Twitter to show his support for his nephew.
Iwobi has two goals and three assists in his past three games and he’s enjoyed Okocha’s support on social media.

“Before that I didn’t even know he had Twitter!” Iwobi told Arsenal Player. “All my friends were asking if I saw what my uncle had said so I checked it out. It is crazy and I’m just happy I’m making him proud and hopefully I will be even better than him.

“He was at the Watford game and the Barcelona game,” added Iwobi. “The fact he comes to watch shows it means a lot to him and he shows his support. It is good for me.

“[I get advice from him] almost weekly. He came to my house the other day. Unfortunately I missed him because I was here [at the training ground] but we do keep in contact a lot. He does tell me what I need to do and what I need to work on.

“He is always telling me that he knows a lot has happened and that I have come far, but he says to stay humble and that I will go far.”

Reps to revisit 2016 budgets

The impasse over the 2016 Budget passed by the National Assembly and awaiting presidential assent may be broken at the House of Representatives which expressed a readiness to ‘re-examine ‘ it yesterday.

The decision to take a second look at the budget at the lower federal legislative chamber is to ensure a cordial relationship with the executive arm of government and in the interest of Nigerians, according to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr .Yakubu Dogara.

At the Senate which has also passed the budget and vowed not to review it despite divisions over some items, especially the Lagos-Calabar Rail project, there were indications that its leadership has moved to end the rift.

It has also emerged that Interior, Defence and Education which are among 10 federal ministries and agencies with the highest allocation in the budget are to spend more on salaries and overheads.

Dogara who spoke after deliberations on the budget imbroglio said: “In the interest of our people and considering the prevailing economic situation in the country, we have agreed to re-examine the 2016 budget. We will engage the executive arm and iron out grey areas. We will ensure we have a workable budget that can be implemented.”

The chairman of the House committee on media and publicity, Mr Abdulrazak Namdas, who shed light on the outcome of the session disclosed that Dogara would lead the team that would re-examine the budget with the executive arm.

He said notwithstanding the resolution, the House was yet to hear from President Muhammadu Buhari on areas of concern in the budget other than speculative reports in the media.

He stated: “I want to state clearly that up till now that I speak, there is no communication from the executive or the President to the National Assembly. So we cannot just say this is the problem. All that we read in the media are people’s opinion but Mr. President has not come out to say this and this is my problem with the budget that has been passed because as we were told this budget has been taken back to the ministry to review and taken back to the president.

“And that is why we have asked our Speaker to liaise with the executive. Let’s know what is the issue because we are elected by the people. We are here to serve Nigerians and therefore if these things are done in the national interest, we are open to accommodate them.”

He reiterated that in spite the viability of the Calabar- Lagos rail project , it was not included in the budget proposal submitted by Buhari on December 22 last year.

Asked what becomes of the Budget Bill in the event it has to be altered, he said he would not want to put the “cart before the horse” on the issue.

He insisted that as things stood, the budget has been passed and it behoved President Buhari to sign and implement it in the interest of Nigerians.

Following claims by the executive arm that the project was included in the budget but removed by the National Assembly, some Senators had expressed concern about the reasons for such action.

At the executive session of Tuesday, the Senate leadership was said to have advised Senators from the southern part of the country not to allow the Lagos-Calabar Rail project to create a division in the upper legislative chamber.

The chairmen of the Appropriation Committees of both chambers, Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe) and Jibril AbdulMumuni (Kano), were accused of inserting projects in the budget without the knowledge of other members of the panels.

Senators from the South were said to have expressed displeasure about the promotion of infrastructural development in the North against the interest of their regions.

The disclosure by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, Gbenga Ashafa, that the rail project was in the budget, heightened the suspicion of some Senators from the South regarding the motive for the removal.

Matters got worse when Ashafa was said to have alleged that he received threat messages over his press statement which exposed the fact that the Lagos-Calabar Rail project ‎was recommended by his committee and later removed by the appropriation panels.

It was learnt that consequently, some Senators from the South have resolved to ask President Buhari to withhold his assent if the Appropriation Committees of both chambers of the National Assembly refused to include the Calabar – Lagos rail project in the 2016 budget bill.

Buhari to treat pipeline vanderlisation like Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned that henceforth, the activities of vandals and saboteurs blowing up oil and gas installations will get the same reaction from his government as that being taken against Boko Haram insurgents by the Armed Forces.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the Nigerian community resident in China, as part of his tour to the country, Buhari reaffirmed his commitment to winning the war against corruption, saying that the menace was an arch-enemy of the nation which has destroyed the lives of many Nigerians.

Besides, there are indications that the nation’s oil and gas sector may face yet another threat in the restive Niger Delta region, as some Ijaw communities have reportedly declared a multinational company, Saipem Consortium, persona non grata in their areas.

Addressing Nigerians he met in China, Buhari said:”I ask for your support to make our vision of stamping out corruption a reality in the shortest possible time. Whoever is caught will not be spared. The government is still being dared, but those who are sensible should have learnt a lesson. Those who are mad, let them continue in their madness.

“I am aware that in the last two weeks, the national grid collapsed a number of times. I hope this message will reach the vandals and saboteurs who are blowing up pipelines and installations.

“We will deal with them the way we dealt with Boko Haram,” the president declared, assuring the Nigerian community that the Federal Government was working very hard to overcome national challenges and deliver on its promise of a better Nigeria.

“Clearly, our vision of a diversified and inclusive economy will not be achieved overnight. It will be a long, and in some cases, painful journey. I am very confident we will get there. But we must start that journey now.

“We hear proposals for short cuts or quick wins. However, all we need to do is look at our history to know that there are no quick wins or short cuts in fixing Nigeria. The many decades of damage and destruction cannot be repaired overnight.

“The reform programme we are implementing is not because oil prices are below $45 per barrel today. It is because when oil prices were over $100 per barrel, the majority of Nigerians were still suffering.

“They were simply forgotten and left behind. So, our reforms are to ensure that the majority of Nigerians are not left behind,” the president told them.

Buhari also assured the Nigerian community that his administration was fulfilling its promise to improve security across the country, stressing, “When we came into office in 2015,  Boko Haram insurgents occupied 14 Local Government Areas. Today, I am pleased to say the insurgents have been routed out of these local governments and their capacity to fight as a force has been significantly degraded.

“We will continue working hard to ensure that the group is eliminated. This is achievable. And we will not settle for anything less,” he said.

Specifically, Saipem, an Italian oil contracting firm, is currently handling three gas plant projects technically referred to as SSAGS+, on behalf of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Ijaw communities hosting the Beniseide, Tunu and Ogbotobo Flow Stations.

However, the communities have reportedly asked the Anglo-Dutch oil giant, Shell, to stop contracting Saipem to handle its oil and gas projects within their areas.

They have also requested that Saipem be withdrawn from further executing the ongoing projects in the three flow stations.

Spokesman of the communities, Pere-ebibo Cinema Fufeyin, a lawyer yesterday said, that youths of the various communities were already mobilising to storm the Embassies of the United Kingdom and Italy in Abuja, for a peaceful protest against the continued presence of Saipem in their areas.

He told reporters in Abuja that the communities took the decision because of various alleged contractual illegalities and fraudulent practices allegedly perpetrated by the Saipem Consortium in its dealings with them.

He said despite several complaints by the communities over the flagrant subversion of agreements guiding its operations in their area including Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) and Freedom to Operate (FTOs), Saipem had allegedly continued to front one Kenneth Oboku, to corner all the sub-contracts meant for host communities.

“Prior to the commencement of the project, an agreement was reached, officially documented and signed by representatives of the various communities, SPDC and Saipem Consortium.

“The agreement specifically outlined the community/contractor’s commitments to enable the smooth implementation of the projects.

“While the communities in the mutual agreements, averred their commitment to assist SPDC in removing all structures on SPDC’s acquired land around the flow stations to allow for unimpeded construction work by Saipem Consortium, a commitment it has since fulfilled, SPDC/Saipem as part of the contractor’s responsibilities, agreed and expressed commitment to ensuring that sub-contracting opportunities for the supply of materials and the provision of services as required by the SPDC contractors for the project activities, will be awarded only to qualified indigenous contractors.

“Apart from drawing a list of 10 sub-contract opportunities to be mandatorily preserved as indigenous lots, it was also emphasised as part of the contractor’s commitments, that qualified community contractors registered with Saipem Consortium Nigeria Limited (SCNL), will also be allowed to tender via competitive bids with other non-community contractors for services and supplies not stated on the exclusive indigenous list as may be required in the course of executing the project, and that the contractor shall solicit the supply of equipment from the communities in all cases where such equipment are not consortium-owned.”

Fufeyin explained that these were among other commitments made in tandem with statutory local content regulatory provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to which the contractor committed itself to sourcing 100per cent and 60 per cent of unskilled and semi-skilled workers respectively, and as well liaising with the leaders of the communities to source some skilled workers in the project area.

He said: “While we had no doubt that a diligent, transparent and holistic implementation of these commitments would have provided the required peaceful environment for execution of the project, officials of Saipem Consortium mobilised to the various sites with a sinister grand design to criminally corner the opportunities, including human, material and financial, accruable to the communities.

“Instead of awarding sub-contracts reserved for members of the host community as earlier agreed and endorsed by SPDC/Saipem Consortium and the communities, these exclusive sub-contracts are all awarded to the contractor’s front, who then hands miserable sums of money upon being paid, to a few induced members of the communities.”

Stressing that the communities are unwavering in their resolve to halt the operations of Saipem in their communities, Fufeyin said: “If Shell fails to heed the communities’ request to withdraw Saipem and stop contracting further projects to it in our area, then we shall assume that SPDC no longer desires to undertake its projects at the three flow stations.”

Nigerians, UNICEF remember Chibok girls, lament damage to girl-child education

Nigeria tomorrow marks the second anniversary of the abduction of about 276 female students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, with the failure to rescue them and government’s seeming inability to do anything about it, and the devastating effect of insurgency particularly on the girl-child again coming to the fore.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Women Development, Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan at an educational summit with the theme ‘Endangered Education,’ held as part of ‘Global Week of Action’ in commemoration of the 2014 abduction lamented that girls’ education particularly in the insurgency-ridden states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa had come under a serious threat.

“It is unfortunate that almost two years since the abduction of the Chibok girls by ‘Boko Haram insurgents’, the girls are yet to be rescued despite effort by government and support from international community.

“As we all know, since 2009, the insurgency and counter-insurgency activities in the north-east part of Nigeria have displaced over 1.3 million people of which 57 percent are children.

“Hundreds of children including girls have experienced different types of violence ranging from sexual abuse, death of one or both parents and family separation,” she said.

The minister however, explained that government had put in place some measures for protection and access to education for the Nigerian child particularly the girl-child.

They include: promulgation of the Child Rights Act, 2003, and its domestication in 23 out of 36 states; and the enactment of Violence Against Persons’ Prohibition Act (VAPP), 2015, which criminalises violence against all persons and makes penalties for offences

Former minister and one of the founders of Bring Back Our Girls, Oby Ezekwesili, in a speech at the education conference, said the number of girls with access to school and completing primary and secondary education in the south is higher than in the north. This, she described as a major contributor to higher levels of poverty in the northern region of Nigeria.

Giving statistics, she said the average poverty level in the three northern zones is 73.8% compared to an average of 63.3% in the south according to a report published by the British Council Nigeria, in 2012.

“With 60% of the poor in Nigeria estimated to be women and 70% estimated youths, even if we continued to grow at 7% and not the latest lower rate of 2.8% recorded in 2015, we should urgently interrogate the growth structure that is failing to maximize our country’s human capital- women and youths,” she added.

Ezekwesili also stated that only 20% of women in the north west and north east of the country are literate and inequality and its root cause can be traced to unequal access to education.”
And as a fallout of lingering Boko Haram’s attacks in the north east , about one million children have been robbed of education, as the activities of the insurgents have dealt a deadly blow on the educational system of the area.

According to the Human Rights Watch report released yesterday between 2009 and 2015, Boko Haram’s attacks had destroyed more than 910 schools and forced at least 1,500 more to close, with at least 611 teachers deliberately killed and another 19,000 forced to flee.

“The group has abducted more than 2,000 civilians, many of them women and girls, including large groups of students.”In a related development, the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has alerted that the number of children involved in ‘suicide’ attacks in Nigeria, Cameroun, Chad and Niger has risen sharply over the past year, from four in 2014 to 44 in 2015.

UNICEF Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Manuel Fontaine, said: “Let us be clear: these children are victims, not perpetrators. Deceiving children and forcing them to carry out deadly acts has been one of the most horrific aspects of the violence in Nigeria and in neighbouring countries.”

Released two years after the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, the report “Beyond Chibok” shows alarming trends in four countries affected by Boko Haram over the past two years:
·Between January 2014 and February 2016, Cameroun recorded the highest number of suicide attacks involving children (21), followed by Nigeria (17) and Chad (2).

Human Rights Watch’s 86-page report, titled; “‘They Set the Classrooms on Fire’: Attacks on Education in Northeast Nigeria,” which documents Boko Haram’s increasingly brutal assaults on schools, students, and teachers since 2009 in Borno, Yobe, and Kano states, indicted Nigeria’s security forces for contributing to the problem by using schools as military bases, thereby putting children at further risk of attack from the Islamist armed group.

According to Nigeria researcher at Human Rights Watch, Mausi Segun, the insurgents’ brutal crusade against western-style education, is robbing an entire generation of children in northeast Nigeria of their education. “The government should urgently provide appropriate schooling for all children affected by the conflict.”

In late 2012 and early 2013, as Nigerian security forces expanded military operations against Boko Haram, the insurgents became more brutal, deliberately targeting and killing teachers, school administrators, and education officials. The group also attacked students to keep them out of school and forcibly recruited students into Boko Haram’s ranks.

“Its fighters abducted female students as ‘wives,’ effectively for sexual slavery. As security tightened, Boko Haram adopted suicide bombings as a tactic at schools and other locations, killing increasing numbers of children and school staff,” the report read in part.

In another development, wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Buhari in furtherance of her avowed commitment to the amelioration of the plight of the parents of the abducted Chibok girls and over 40 Buni Yadi boys murdered by the Boko Haram terrorists, will make a public presentation of her book titled The Essentials of Beauty Therapy at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja tomorrow to bring to the front burner the sad episode.

The wife of the president has decided that proceeds of the book launch will be dedicated towards charities and bettering the living conditions of families of the embattled girls, parents of the deceased boys and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

No going back on budget, says Senate

As Nigerians await resolution of the face off between the Presidency and the National Assembly over the 2016 budget, the Senate yesterday said that having passed the appropriation bill, it would not bend backward to introduce the Lagos- Calabar Rail project.

And if the rail project must be accommodated in the budget, President Muhammadu Buhari should submit a fresh proposal for it after assenting to the one it had just passed.

The senators took this stand as the Ministry of Budget and National Planning yesterday in Abuja said that the executive arm of government had not joined issues with the lawmakers, and proceeded to explain the circumstances surrounding the inclusion of the coastal rail project.

It was gathered that before reaching their decision, the Senators, at an executive session, were engaged in hot debate over issues arising from the disagreement between the Presidency and the National Assembly.

Some of the lawmakers were said to have expressed disgust about what they called counter statemen‎t issued by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, Gbenga Ashafa, while others condemned the language used in the statement issued by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Ali Saabi Abdullahi.

It was also learnt that many senators complained that the appropriation committees did not carry members along in most of the final decisions taken on the budget.

Briefing journalists at the end of the closed-door session, Abdullahi said the Senate resolved that President Buhari could present a supplementary budget to take care of the Lagos-Calabar Rail project.

Abdullahi said: “Now, one thing that is obvious is that we have passed the budget. Nigerians are asking what next for us; what is important now is for the budget to be signed.
“The constitution has taken note of this kind of scenario where you may have omissions or shortfalls of allocations, and Section 81 of the constitution is very clear on what you need to do which is to sign the budget and then submit a supplementary appropriation.”

Frantic efforts were being made yesterday in Abuja to douse the tension generated by the budget impasse so that a middle ground could be reached to prepare a seeming convivial atmosphere before the president’s return to facilitate early assent to the budget bill.

A communication line is believed to have been opened between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who holds sway temporarily and the leadership of the National Assembly, but the details were not clear at press time.

The explanation from the Budget and Planning Ministry came amidst subtle declaration from the Ministry of Transportation that it had video evidence to prove that the Lagos-Calabar rail project for which N60 billion was appropriated by the ministry was in fact presented to the lawmakers.

The National Assembly Joint Appropriation Committee had claimed that the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, did not include the Lagos-Calabar coastal rail project in the 2016 budget presented to the lawmakers.

In its statement, the Budget and National Planning ministry, through the Media Adviser to the Minister, Mr. James Akpandem, wrote:

“In view of the recent controversies surrounding the 2016 budget, it has become necessary to state the following so as to set the facts straight:

“With reference to the specific issue of the Calabar – Lagos rail project, we will like to state that the two railway projects, Lagos – Kano and the Calabar – Lagos, are very important projects of the present administration; and it was always the intention of the Executive to have both projects reflected in the budget submitted to the National Assembly.

“However, it will be recalled that the Budget Office made a number of errors in the initial proposals of a number of ministries.

These errors were all corrected by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning and the corrected versions were submitted to the relevant committees of the National Assembly. This included that of the Ministry of Transportation.

“The amended Ministry of Transportation budget was accepted by the relevant committees and that was the version defended by the Minister of Transportation and his team.

“It must be emphasized that the two rail projects are part of those for which the President is currently negotiating funding with the Chinese government.”

Also, there is growing concern in the health sector over allegation that the National Assembly has tampered with the figures allocated for the procurement of critical vaccines required to save the lives of children in the budget sent to the President for assent.

Concerned stakeholders are asking the legislative chambers to return the proposed funds to the budget before the Presidential assent.

At a press conference for the upcoming Anglophone Africa Peer Review Workshop on Sustainable Immunization Financing held in Abuja, yesterday, stakeholders wondered why the National Assembly would want to reduce the import of vaccination. They called for sustainable immunization financing in Nigeria.

How N150m was used to furnish Badeh’s son’s N330m duplex, by witness

A former Director of Finance in the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Salisu Abdullahi Yushau (rtd) who is a prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of former Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, yesterday told the Federal High Court, Abuja how separate sums of N60 million and N90 million were paid to Platinum Universal Projects for the renovation and furnishing of Badeh’s son’s N330 million duplex in Wuse, Abuja.

Alex Badeh was said to have rejected an earlier property purchased for him at the cost of N240 million. Testifying before the Federal High Court, Abuja, Yushau, who was under cross examination by the defence counsel, Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN), said he did not tell the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) about the N90 million disbursement because it was not part of the questions asked by the anti-graft agency.

He also informed the court that while he was in the custody of EFCC, finance officers from the Nigerian Air Force were summoned and they brought records of all the property purchased and renovated by Badeh.

The witness, however, told the court that the Deputy Director, Budgets, NAF, was in charge of budget preparations and that he only made input into the budget of other directorates and branches. According to him, the Air Force also has a procedure for retiring unspent funds and that he was not involved in that.

At the resumed hearing, the witness confirmed his earlier statement as requested by the defence counsel that N558 was million set aside monthly to meet the cost of general administration of the staff of Badeh’s office even as he affirmed that Badeh bought houses worth N50 million and N300 million respectively in Abuja; that he purchased another in Kaduna State for N80 million and that he had renovated them with N75 million. He also affirmed that his former boss acquired some other property in the country.

According to him, he was instructed by Badeh to purchase some of the houses. He added that although payments for all the houses were not carried out by him, he assisted in paying for the first four property.

Yushau also testified that he assumed the position of the Director, Finance, about two months after Badeh was appointed Chief of Air Staff and that since then, he had maintained the existing tradition of converting some amount into dollars and giving them to Badeh at the end of every month.

But when the defence counsel, Olujimi demanded to know how much he converted into dollars those early days, he told the court that he could not remember the exact amount. The witness said that he kept no personal records to prove all the cash transactions made between him and Badeh.

He, however, told the court that the Command’s Finance Officer, whose duty it was to keep record has all the records of the amount of the dollar equivalent he handed to Badeh at his official residence on monthly basis and other transactions.

“I cannot remember how much the Command’s Finance Officer gave to me in October 2012 to convert into dollars but I know that the records are there. It is not my duty to keep records but I know the Command’s Finance Officer has kept all the records of transactions in exchange of naira into dollars.”

When asked how monies were disbursed to the commands, he told the court that he did not know how the budget was processed.
“When allocation was made to all NAF formations, the money is disbursed to all the formations and my deputy finance officer was in charge of our allocation.

“If there was any need for finance in our directorate, he wrote to me and I approved. The approval is then taken to the NAF Headquarters camp in Abuja.

“And after the expenditure was carried out, he made his retirement to the office of the Command, Finance Officer at NAF headquarters, Abuja.“I was the accounting officer for the directorate that was why I gave approval for every expenditure for the directorate.”

The EFCC is prosecuting Badeh alongside a firm, Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, on a 10-count charge of money laundering bordering on alleged fraudulent removal of about N3.97 billion from NAF’s account.

The anti-graft agency accused Badeh of using the funds to buy and develop landed assets in Abuja for himself and his two sons between January and December 2013.

Badeh and his company were also accused of removing from the accounts of the NAF, and using the dollar equivalent of N650 million to purchase a commercial plot at plot 1386, Oda crescent Cadastral zone AO7 Wuse ll, Abuja.

The offence, according to the EFCC, is contrary to Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.

Badeh served as the Chief of Air Staff before he was elevated to the position of the Chief of Defence Staff till he retired from the military last year.

Justice Okon Abang has adjourned the case at the instance of the court till April 19 for further cross-examination and continuation of trial.

Motorists seek urgent rescue of Apapa-Oshodi highway

On Monday, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, disclosed how he lost his mother-in-law to the unavailability of a pedestrian bridge at one of the busiest sections of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

But to many Lagosians who have been forced to spend three hours on a journey that shouldn’t last five minutes on the bad portions of the busy highway, it is a daily agony of precious man-hours lost to government’s barefaced neglect.

It has been an excruciating experience for motorists meandering through the bad portions of the expressway at Ballet/Ilasamaja/Iyana-Itire axis, which has gone terribly bad in the aftermath of recent downpour.

Daily, articulated trucks get stuck or fall on its side in one of the widening craters at the middle of the road. For each incidence, it is more agony for road users, as the breakdown usually leads to a long stretch of chaotic traffic jam.

Chairman of Apapa branch of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mr. Olalekan Taiwo, has urged the Federal Government to repair the roads, saying the gridlock and deplorable state of road will have an adverse effect on the citizens and the economy.

“In the past, we used to hear of pot-holes, but today, may be trenches. The state of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway is a huge cause of concern to us because it is daily embarrassing the government. I implore the Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), to put the road in good condition at the earliest possible time and save a lot of Nigerians the daily trauma,” he said.

Affected motorist, Austin Ejeke, said Nigerians are suffering and being pushed daily to their limit of tolerance by several government actions and inactions.

“The bad spots on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway is one of the reasons why Nigerians desperately seek an end to the drama over 2016 budget, so the Buhari administration can start working and stop blaming the last administration.”

However, there are hopes that the state government will commence palliative measures on the road this month. This is coming on the heels of the promise made by the Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), Mr. Ayotunde Sodeinde, who stated that the corporation had started extensive repair works on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway

Lol picture.... what fuel scarcity could cost Nigerian.

If fuel scarcity continues this joking picture might come true.

Check out today's joke.

The attorney tells the accused, “I have some good news and some bad news.”
“What’s the bad news?” asks the accused.
“The bad news is, your blood is all over the crime scene, and the DNA tests prove you did it.”
“What’s the good news?”
“Your cholesterol is 130.”

Is this for real??

Adam's reply over OLUCHI blast.

Adam, a fan of wizkid reply Oluchi, an igbo girl who blasted wizkid earlier.

Oluchi blast wizkid over Linda Ikeji.

Igbo girl called OLUCHI blast wizkid. See picture below.

Wizkid continue to trash Linda Ikeji.

Wizkid posted on snapchat telling Linda ikeji to come and take pussy cleansers after telling her she gat a smelling pussy.

Linda's response to wizkid post.

So my darling little ‘friend’ Wizkid came on my IG page this morning to blast me for writing yesterday that he was given quit notice at the Lekki home he claimed he bought some years ago, which he actually rented.
He threatened to beat me up…called me an ugly old b***h…(I’m ugly? lol) says I don’t have a man (crying over that..) and called my mum a loser…(what a child).
Anyway, all that don’t matter, people have said worse to me…what I wanted to address is the part where he said I slept with his director and he left me in a hotel…that one I will definitely want to
address because some people actually believe it. That my dear friends, is a lie! Please continue…
First and foremost, I’ve never met Wizkid one on one. I’ve only seen him once in real life on stage at a show a few years ago. I’ve never met anybody who is his director. Guess he put that line in his comments to defame me. You that mad that people now know the house is not yours? Lol.
Trust me, if I knew someone was Wizkid’s director, I’d rather kill myself than sleep with him or any other entertainer for that matter (except maybe he’s my husband..hehe) because I know how some of these entertainers are…they kiss and tell a lot.
You can’t afford to be messing around in their circle. So, no, I have NEVER slept with Wizkid’s director. I live a celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has to end soon…I’m getting old and missing out on that part of life…lol)
I’ve always been an advocate of women respecting their bodies and owning their own. And I feel s*x should only happen when you’re in committed relationship (that is if you can’t wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for a long as you’re not committed to someone.
There’s absolutely no dignity in sleeping around and messing around with different men. It’s ugly and God don’t like ugly. So no, I’m not that woman, and will never be that woman. Nice try, Wizkid!
Having said that, I’m sure, you wonder why Wizkid is so mad at me? To be honest, I don’t know either. All I know is that his beef with me started a long time ago but he decided to start bashing me online after I refused a meeting with him.
A few months ago, he asked his PR people to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For some reason, he thought I didn’t like him and I was hurting his image online.
He wanted to see how I could write more positive things about him but I turned down the meeting. Not that I have anything against him, I sincerely don’t! I think he’s an amazing talent and one of the few music stars in Nigeria with a midas touch.
So this wasn’t personal. I just didn’t want to meet him. If he lobbies me then it means I won’t be able to write anything about him anymore…and my job is to write…about everything, including entertainers.
I am cordial with some of them…many of them I have never met. I try to stay away from gatherings where they are because the more friends you make in the entertainment industry, the less you can write.
And that will inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that I call acquaintances, it’s hard to write about them because you feel you’re cool with them and even when you write, they call you to complain. So, the fewer ‘friends’ I have in the entertainment industry, the better my job will be.
So Wizkid can bash me all he wants…but I will continue to do my job. Maybe he thinks the more he bashes me, then I will stop writing about him? Won’t work. But meanwhile, if he tells a lie about me, I will address it. LIB plans to be around for a long time…some of these people will come and go! :-).
Thanks everyone and Wizkid fans for reading my response.
Oh and by the way, did I mention that his Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh shit, I just mentioned that! And no, darling, you’re not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have an amazing career while I watch and continue to celebrate you. Kisses
